Joa Rivas, Biography

"After many years of consistency work I healed my body and now I help heal others who experience backaches and poor postures"

Joa Rivas was born in Caracas, Venezuela. At the age of 15 Joa suffered from continuous back pain and was diagnosed with scoliosis. Back pain affected Joa for many years. She had been treated by physiotherapists using electrotherapy, massages and with a variety medications but the pain was consistent. Joa’s physiatrist recommended she explore strengthen training as an alternative. At the age of 19, Joa moved to Chicago, USA where she began to show more interest in exercising. She joined a gym for the first time and she started attending fitness classes.

In 2008, Joa moved to Toronto, Canada. Her back pain was still a constant problem. She sought help from chiropractors, acupuncturists, masseuses and also performed sleep tests but nothing helped her.

After 3 years of yoga and Pilates classes, Joa decided to pursue a professional career in fitness. Joa became a certified Body Flow instructor. A fitness class from New Zealand that combines yoga, Pilates and tai chi. Joa continued studying to becoming a personal trainer, fitness instructor and a nutritionist specialist.

After more than 10 years in fitness training, Joa has noticed huge improvements in her posture and core strength.

As a personal trainer and fitness instructor, Joa has helped many people of all ages with similar back and posture problems using the knowledge gained over the years that helped her overcome back pain.

In October 2012, she competed in the Fitness Star Model search for the first time where she qualified in the top 6 in the bikini category. Soon after in March 2013, Joa competed in the GNC live well, Toronto, OPA (Ontario Physique Association) championship where she placed 1st in her category, Bikini Medium. She also placed top 10 in Bikini Bodybuilding OPA Provincials on June 2013.

Joa currently works in Toronto and has been coaching clients online, worldwide, since 2013. Born and raised in Venezuela, she kept the connection with her roots and she maintain her involvement in the hispanic community. She worked for an spanish Toronto tv show, called ENTRENOS hosting the segment of health and wellness on Saturdays at 11am. She wrote monthly articles about posture and health for ONFIT Venezuelan magazine.

Joa Rivas is an elite Personal Trainer working in the heart of Toronto. Joa works as a Fitness Instructor as well as a Yoga, Pilates and Tai chi teacher. Joa is also Nutrition and Wellness certified and possesses a unique and effective program for posture support and correction, especially for people that suffer from scoliosis and chronic backaches.

Joa completed the Hypertrophy Academy of the Canadian Center of Strength and Conditioning in 2014. Her fitness versatility skills cover ways to develop proper workouts to create optimal hypertrophy to help them build muscles and get stronger and fitter.

As a Thai Massage therapist, she can help clients improve body flexibility and reduce risk of injuries.

In 2015, Joa took a real leap of faith by going in a new adventure and connecting closer to nature by moving to Sydney, Australia. She began a deep meditation journey studying program by Deepak Chopra about Synchodestiny. She completed the CERT IV from the Australian Institute of Fitness, a certification that qualifies her to train individuals in Australia and New Zealand. She taught Yoga, Pilates and Tai chi in front of Manly Beach, Sydney.

In 2016, she had an opportunity to work along side with world class personal trainers at Ultimate Performance, based in the UK. She moved to UP Singapore where she expanded her knowledge and experience working with top professionals in the strength and wellness industry. She was fascinated by the amazing journey in Asia and she continues studying techniques of deep meditations in India, Malaysia, Nepal, Vietnam and Myanmar, where she completes 100 hours of silent meditation.

In 2018, she moved back to Canada. She is currently based in Toronto where she works as a yoga, pilates teacher, Thai Massage therapist and online coach. She connects with local communities through meet ups as a motivational speaker, bringing her story to everyone around her to inspire and to promote health.

She gives back to her community by happily supporting “Solidaridad Concepcionista”, a foundation in Venezuela, which provides nutrition and education to over 1,500 kids.

Joa is presently studying to become an international motivational coach. She also has trained to be a Doula birth practitioner offering emotional support and education to the mothers in her city.

Favorite Actor: My aunt in Venezuela who started as an actress at 16 and now she is still an amazing actress over 80 .

Pre work out: caffeine and aminoacids.

Favorite body part to train: Legs because it is always a challenge.
